A global financial services firm operating advanced trading platforms is seeking an experienced Market Risk Manager to join its U.S. office in the Chicago area. The firm offers a broad range of trading products, including OTC instruments, equities, and listed futures and options. The company has a strong commitment to technology-driven risk management and regulatory compliance.
Position Overview
The Market Risk Manager will play a key leadership role in overseeing daily market risk operations, managing risk staff, and ensuring the effective execution of margin processes and client activity monitoring. This role requires hands-on experience with commodity derivatives, risk models, and trading platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for identifying and mitigating market risk associated with client trading activity.
Supervise and mentor a small team of risk analysts.
Oversee issuance and follow-up of margin calls to clients and introducing brokers.
Manage pre-trade control settings and periodic system reviews across multiple trading platforms.
Monitor post-trade risk systems and escalate exceptions as appropriate.
Maintain firm-wide risk metrics and dashboards.
Act as PMO for market risk initiatives, ensuring timely project delivery and prioritization.
Provide risk reports and insights to senior leadership for internal and regulatory use.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in financial markets, with a focus on commodity derivatives, trading, and risk management.
Prior experience at a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) or broker/dealer is strongly preferred.
Solid understanding of exchange margin methodologies (e.g., SPAN, IRM, Prisma).
Familiarity with trading platforms such as T4, CQG, TT, or QST.
Advanced Excel and SQL skills for risk data analysis and reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
